BerryHill Landscaping & Construction renovates established Meadowood properties in south St. Vital — a full generation older than the newer Dakota Crossing streets just south of it, with mature lots, older concrete and a stretch of the Seine River along its eastern edge. Driveway replacement, regrading, paving stone patios, retaining walls and backyard renovations, built for mid-century St. Vital lots and clay soil. Meadowood sits in south St. Vital, south of Bishop Grandin Boulevard to Novavista Drive, bounded by Dakota Street on the west and the Seine River on the east. St. Vital became its own city in 1962 before joining Winnipeg in the 1972 Unicity merger, and Meadowood developed as part of that mid-century wave of St. Vital growth — older residents still refer to parts of it by its original subdivision name, Meadowood Manor.
What it is today is an established, tree-covered residential neighbourhood with eight named City parks (Brentford, Brixford, John Bruce, Knightsbridge, Meadowood, Riel, Thunder Bay and Willowmeade), the St. Vital Centennial Arena and Victor H.L. Wyatt School, and easy walking access to St. Vital Centre. It borders the newer Dakota Crossing neighbourhood directly to the south — the two are often confused, but Meadowood’s lots, trees and original concrete are a full generation older, which changes the kind of work we do here.
A few things separate Meadowood from Dakota Crossing and the rest of St. Vital:
It’s an established neighbourhood, not a new build. Meadowood developed during St. Vital’s mid-century growth, well before Dakota Crossing to the south. That means original driveways, front steps and patios here are decades old and due for real repair or replacement, not just finishing touches.
Mature lots and established trees, not builder-grade sod. Fifty- to sixty-year-old boulevard and yard trees are typical throughout Meadowood, which changes how we plan excavation and grading around root systems — a very different starting point than a newer subdivision.
Eight neighbourhood parks and a river on one edge. With Brentford, Brixford, John Bruce, Knightsbridge, Meadowood, Riel, Thunder Bay and Willowmeade parks spread through the area, and the Seine River forming the eastern boundary, we see everything from straightforward inland clay yards to riverbank-adjacent lots within the same neighbourhood.
Central St. Vital location means high renovation demand. Being close to St. Vital Centre and the Bishop Grandin corridor, Meadowood homes are well-located and often owned long-term — which means a lot of what we quote is a first serious exterior renovation on a house the owner intends to stay in.

The crew that quotes your job is the crew that builds it — except licensed gas fitting, where the law requires it.
One block can mean a generation of difference in lot age, tree maturity and original construction. We quote each neighbourhood on its own housing stock, not a blanket St. Vital price.
Established canopy is one of Meadowood’s biggest assets. Our grading and excavation plans protect it rather than treating it as a problem.

BerryHill Landscaping & Construction is among the top-rated companies serving Meadowood and south St. Vital, with 15+ years of local experience and 300+ reviews across Google, Houzz, Facebook and HomeStars. We know the neighbourhood’s established housing stock and how it differs from newer Dakota Crossing next door.
No. They are neighbouring St. Vital communities, but Meadowood is the older of the two, developed during St. Vital’s mid-century growth, while Dakota Crossing to the south is a newer build-out. Lot age, tree maturity and original concrete condition differ significantly between them.
Most of Meadowood’s original hardscape dates to the neighbourhood’s mid-century construction, putting it well past a normal service life on Winnipeg clay. Decades of freeze-thaw cycling, not poor upkeep, is usually the cause.
Yes. Established boulevard and yard trees are common throughout Meadowood, and we plan grading and excavation around root systems rather than removing healthy mature trees unnecessarily.
Lots within the City’s 350-foot regulated waterway area along the Seine River may require a geotechnical report and additional permitting for structures like retaining walls. We help determine whether your lot falls in that zone.
Driveway replacement and regrading commonly run from the low to mid thousands depending on scope, with patios and retaining walls higher and a full backyard renovation higher again. Every quote is free, on-site and line-itemed.
Yes. We provide free on-site consultations throughout Meadowood, assess the grade, trees and existing hardscape, and give you a clear, detailed quote.
Yes, this is one of the most common projects we quote in Meadowood — removing the old slab, rebuilding the base properly, and pouring or paving a driveway built to last.
Most single projects take a few days to a week from excavation to finished surface, depending on scope, tree-root conditions and weather.
